Information: Description of IOF System Levels

IOF machine-park exists of different imaging technologies and applications, which also come with different levels of complexity. To clarify the complexity of the different systems, we indicate the level of complexity – and the default required training effort – in the following manner:

• Level 0: only requires ‘introduction to Imaging & Optics Facility’ (Stereo; Analysis Workstations, etc)

• Level 1: requires 2 × training → standard Widefield and Confocal applications

• Level 2: requires 2 × training + 1 assisted session / additional training required → Spinning Disk, Multi Modal, Advanced Applications & Assays (FLIM, UV ablation, pipette aspiration, …)

• Level 3: requires 2 × trainings + Assisted Sessions + System configuration by IOF staff* → AFM / Light-sheet* / Multi-photon*. Late cancellation (>24h before start) will require to inform IOF besides sending out an late-cancellation email (SIFFY).

Facility Policies

Any damage needs to be reported via any central Imaging & Optics Facility support channels immediately – especially in case of including liquid spills!

Booking system (PPMS)

All Scientific Service Units (SSUs) at ISTA make use of the same online booking system. Please find below links to an introdcution, Tips & Tricks, reporting incidents and how you can check and change your bookings

For any issues with your cost-center / cost account → see our PPMS-FAQ section.

Communication & Support

We are communicating updates about events and systems through mailing lists

We are communicating updates about events and systems through mailing lists.

  1. imaging@lists.ist.ac.at is used by the Imaging and Optics Facility staff to send out relevant notification about BIF guidelines, news and events.  This list is obligatory to all users of the Imaging and Optics facility. All users will be added to this list by the Imaging and Optics Facility staff.
  2. imaging-cancellation@lists.ist.ac.at is to be used to send out emails ‘from users to users’ of the Imaging and Optics facility. This is an additional non-obligatory mailing list has been, for which you can sign up via ICP self-service
  3. SIFFY emails need to be sent to imaging-cancellation@lists.ist.ac.at. this is a ‘from users to users’ mailing list of the Imaging and Optics facility. please sign up via ICP self-service
  4. IOF support: all options to contact us
